What does Blue Voyage mean?
The Blue Voyage offers the best possible escape on the sea: a means
of forgetting the rigors of everyday life for a while and of just
letting go of time.
Cevat Sakir Kabaagacli -one of our well known intellectuals and
political writers- is the figure who has originally pronounced and
conceptualized the 'blue voyage'. During his stay in Bodrum, he
used to write his articles and stories about the town and its locals
-in particular, the fishermen- with the adopted name, "the
Fisherman of Halicarnassus".
On his regular cruises with fishermen, he gradually got to know
the various coves and bays in the Gulf of Gokova. When friends and
colleagues from Istanbul dropped in, he took the opportunity to
introduce them to the fishermen's way of life which he so loved.
Cevat Sakir's tours of the Gulf of Gokova soon became widely known
and became a source of enjoyment for thousands of people for the
past 60 years.
